차를 몰고 광화문 앞을 지날 때마다 해치를 본다. 어찌 보면 무섭기도, 또 어찌 보면 부드럽게 미소를 짓는 것 같다. 묘한 매력이 있는 녀석이다. 그래서 이 해치가 과거에는 궁궐을 지키고 있었고, 지금은 서울의 상징이 되었나 보다.

해치는 옳고 그름을 판단할 수 있는 신수(神獸)라고 합니다. 이 해치를 화면 중앙에 위치시키고 그와 어울리는 자연 그대로의 동식물을 자유롭게 배치하여 불의(不義)가 감히 범접하지 못하는 청정공간 서울을 꿈꾸어 보았다.

◇Theme10=Hadogam site

Dongdaemun Stadium was built at the site of Hadogam, a branch of the Bureau of Military Training in the Joseon period. Hadogam had been an organization set to build up strength but its site was occupied by the Japanese Empire.

This work represents wishes for pacifism and nonviolence, contrasting the old-fashioned and modern military at the center surrounded by gargantuan animals and plants.

■11테마=동대문지역의 종합상

동대문, 광화문해치(좌.우), 민화 해치, 동대문디자인플라자&파크(DDPP), 남산타워, 동대문시장 등을 종합적으로 구성하여 동대문지역의 복잡한 분위기를 전체 화면에 담고자 하였다.

동대문의 역사·문화·환경을 모두 담은 이야기를 다층적으로 풀어내면서 활기차면서도 동시에 묵직함이 있는 동대문 지역의 양면성을 드러내고자 했다.

◇Theme11=Comprehensive aspects of the Dongdaemun area

I intend to encapsulate the intricate atmosphere of the Dongdaemun area through a comprehensive composition of Dongdaemun, Gwanghwamun haechi (left and right), haechi in folk painting, Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Park, Dongdaemun Stadium, Dongdaemun Stadium Station, athletes, Hadogam, Namsan Tower, and Dongdaemun market.

I(ARTIST HUR JIN,許塡,허진 작가,한국화가 허진,HUR JIN,허진 교수,허진 화백,A Painter HUR JIN) will also try to unveil the duality of the area that is both vital and grave simultaneously, addressing Dongdaemun’s history, culture, and surroundings.
