Battling against the wind and waves of modern Korean society, he has chosen the natural landscape as a metaphor for the stem reality of life. With an unyielding spirit, he has stood firm, just like a giant tree at the village entrance.

He has provided us a welcome shade from the sun. His pictures remind us of a forgotten or lacking part of our lives. He sounds a steady warning: we risk falling into the depths of despair if we lead hollow lives in pursuit of momentary impulses and pleasures. When looking at his painting of an old white horse standing in front of a flabby clock, we somehow realize that life is but an empty dream. We may feel helpless and sad in the face of an apparently unchangeable and monstrous world.

However, the situation begins to be reversed in his pictures. Magnolia blossoms full of life’s power send a message of blessing and hope. Now he pictures a dazzling flower, rather than the fallen leaves flying in the wind of years past. As a result, his recent works of art embody natural beauty and life’s value instead of emotional conflict and loneliness.

These paintings, full of generosity and welcoming reveal the artist’s hopes and expectations of life. Such works can only come from a great wisdom acquired by contemplation of nature and time.
